South Bristol Historical Society Facts

Founded:
The Society was founded in 1998.

Mission:
The Society's goals are to collect and preserve historical memorabilia and important records relating to the town, to promote interest in local history among school children and the general public, and to maintain and operate an historical reference center for the public.

Collections:
Collections include town records and town reports, genealogical files, artifacts related to South Bristol shipbuilding and fishing, a postcard collection, and photographs and ephemera.

Facilities:
The Society's Museum and Genealogy Center is located at 2124 State Route 219.

The South Bristol Historical Society led the restoration of the S Street one-room school and moved the old smokehouse that used to be at South Bristol Gut to the site.

Activities, Hours

The Museum and Genealogy Center hours are:
September - December and March - June: Sundays, 2-4 p.m.
July-August: Fridays, 1-4 p.m.
January and February, most Wednesdays, 1-3 p.m.
